Chronic Conditions

Chronic conditions are varied and have many good treatment options for remission or recovery.

Chronic conditions arise from non-emergent factors that usually take a long time to develop and progress. There is often tissue damage that has been ongoing for months or years before the problem becomes apparent. Once symptoms start, this usually means that the body’s ability to compensate for the ongoing assault is exhausted and it is starting to give way. These conditions are often insidious as we do not know that the processes that lead to sickness are going on.

Many of these conditions have known risk factors and mediating these early on can significantly decrease the long term burden of disease. Most of these can be treated or complemented by naturopathic care. Common chronic conditions include but are not limited to:

  • Cardiovascular Disease: Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), High Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure
  • Lung Diseases: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma, Pneumonia
  • Endocrine Disorders: Diabetes, Hypo- or Hyper- thyrodism, Adrenal Fatigue
  • Kidney Disease e.g. Chronic Renal Insufficiency
  • Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease e.g. Gastritis, Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD), Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)
  • Rehabilitation from Stroke or Myocardial Infarctions
  • Mental Health e.g. Anxiety & Depression
  • Musculoskeletal concerns e.g. Arthritis, Back pain, Osteoporosis, Fibromyalgia
  • Skin conditions such as Acne, Psoriasis, Eczema
  • Immune: allergies, auto-immune conditions
  • Infections: Herpes, Lyme disease
  • Urological e.g. Cystitis
  • Recurrent conditions e.g. Candidiasis

Chronic conditions are treated over a long period of time with slow steady progress toward remission or recovery
